Jesus was the opposite of the rude and mean king Rehoboam. Jesus is our gentle king and he works in us through his Holy Spirit to bring about gentleness in our lives!

He made a way for us to be forgiven for our sins. That’s right, the prophet Zechariah wrote this about Jesus!

Kind words are precious. In fact, Jesus was so considerate toward others that he was prepared to lay down his own life for us. Everything that God creates is firm and immovable, and it does its deep work.

Sometimes we can be selfish and mean like king Rehoboam, but Jesus still loves us and he takes our rude and mean ways and he gives us his gentleness.

Galatians 5:16-18 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh…. “And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient …” 2 Timothy 2:24.

It’s a way of saying that we become more like Jesus.

(1 Peter 2:9), Kindness is one of the Spirit’s noble fruits. The Bible is full of people who possessed and practiced them – examples for us to follow! (Read Genesis 45). David said about Saul and Jonathan that they were mighty warriors, but were beloved and pleasant (gentle) in life. When he sent his brothers home to fetch their father, Jacob, he said, “See that you do not argue along the way.” This should not happen on such an important mission on which they had been sent – on the way to their father. Gentleness is the eighth listed attribute of the Spirit’s fruit found in the Galatians 5. In 2 Samuel 22:35-36 he says, “He teaches my hands to make war … Your gentleness has made me great.” What makes a person great is when he overcomes the evil with good. Do you long to partake of this fruit of the Spirit? The earthly things pass away (are temporal), but the heavenly things are eternal. We demonstrate the gentleness of Jesus when we have a gentle manner and gentle words (Proverbs 15:4).

Does gentleness mean that I don't get to be my loud, funny, joking self?

The characteristics listed as Fruits of the Spirit are adjectives that, ultimately, describe Jesus.
